We love everything about this banana orange smoothie recipe. It uses four simple ingredients and the flavor tastes like the popular Orange Julius smoothie.

Orange Juice Smoothie Recipe

  • Orange Juice. We use unsweetened oat milk for this recipe, but feel free to use whatever unsweetened milk you like. Oat milk is naturally free from lactose, soy and nuts.
  • Oat Milk. We like to use oat milk because it has a nice mild and neutral flavor. Use whatever milk you like to use best.
  • Banana. We use frozen bananas for this smoothie because frozen bananas also make a colder, richer and creamier smoothie rather than room temperature bananas.
  •  Pure Vanilla Extract. Adding pure vanilla extract to this smoothie makes it taste like Orange Julius.

Variations

  • Add 1/4 cup yogurt (if you want to add a little protein and good probiotics)
  • Blend with a few ice cubes or serve over ice if you want a lighter smoothie drink.

How To Make Orange Smoothie

  1. Measure. Measure out all of the ingredients and put them in a blender.
  2. Blend. Blend ingredients until smooth. If it’s too thick to blend, stop the blender, remove the lid and stir the ingredients with a wooden spoon or spatula to break things up, then add more oat milk for desired consistency and continue to blend until smoothie.

How Long Will It Last?

Store this banana orange smoothie in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 day, or pour into an ice cube tray and freeze. Transfer the frozen smoothie cubes to an airtight container or freezer bag (marking the date on the bag) and freeze for up to 6 months. They’re great added to smoothies.

How To Freeze Bananas

  • Peel the bananas. Peel ripe bananas and discard the peel.
  • Slice bananas.  Slice bananas into in 1/2 – 1-1/2 inch pieces (they don’t have to be perfectly sized).
  • Cookie sheet.  Lay the banana slices in a single layer on a cookie sheet (you can lay down a piece of parchment paper first if you want).
  • Freeze. Put the cookie sheet with the banana slices in the freezer for 2o minutes.
  • Loosen banana slices.  After 20 minutes lift the banana pieces up from the baking sheet with a spatula so they won’t stick during the remaining freeze time. Then pop them back in the freezer to freeze for about 2 hours.
  • Transfer to freezer bags.  Use a spatula to loosen the frozen banana slices from the cookie sheet and transfer them to a plastic freezer bag.
  • Store in freezer. Store in an air-tight container or bag in the freezer for up to 6 months.
