How To Freeze Fresh Strawberries
Fresh strawberries can quickly become perishable turning soft and moldy within 24 hours. But if you freeze them before they have a chance to go bad, you be able to enjoy them all year long. To freeze strawberries, you simply rinse them under cold water, pat them dry, remove the green caps with a knife, then place them on a cookie sheet and pop them in the freezer for a few hours.
1. Rinse Strawberries: Inspect the carton of strawberries, discarding any that are overly ripe, bruised or have signs of mold. Place them in a colander and rinse under cold water. Gently pat them dry with paper towels.
2. Hull Strawberries: Using a sharp knife, slice off the green tops and remove the hard white core of flesh just beneath the cap. Cut larger strawberries in half.
3. Freeze Fresh Strawberries: Place the prepared strawberries in a single layer on a baking sheet.
Then place them in the freezer uncovered for 3-4 hours.
4. Transfer to Freezer Bags: Write the date on the outside of the freezer bags using a Sharpie pen and transfer the frozen strawberries into the freezer bags or another airtight freezer safe container.
