Pomegranate Smoothie Recipe
This pomegranate smoothie is made with just a handful of simple ingredients.
- Blueberries. We like to use frozen wild blueberries for this smoothie, but regular blueberries (fresh or frozen) work just as well.
- Pomegranate Juice. Use an unsweetened pomegranate juice for this smoothie.
- Bananas. We like to use frozen bananas for this smoothie because they add a rich and creamy texture.
- Kale. We add in a little Lacinato kale to the mix. You won’t even know its there!
- Ginger. A little fresh ginger root adds just a hint of flavor. I like to keep a stash of frozen ginger paste in the freezer for convenience to pop into my smoothies.
- Vanilla. We love to add pure vanilla extract to our smoothies. It gives them an exotic flavor and makes them taste extra special.

- Add 1/4 cup of fresh squeezed orange juice if you want a sweeter smoothie.
- Use mixed berries (blueberries, strawberries and raspberries) instead of blueberries.
- Use unsweetened cranberry juice or cranberry pomegranate juice instead of pomegranate juice.
- Toss in frozen acai or dragon fruit to the mix.
How To Make Pomegranate Juice Smoothie
Pomegranate smoothies are quick and easy to make, especially if you have frozen the bananas ahead of time.
- Measure the ingredients and add them to the blender.
- Blend until smooth.
How Long Will It Last?
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 day, or pour into an ice cube tray and freeze. Transfer the frozen smoothie cubes to an airtight container or freezer bag (marking the date on the bag) and freeze for up to 6 months. Add the frozen smoothie cubes to smoothies.
How To Freeze Bananas For Smoothies
We like to use frozen bananas in my smoothies because they make the smoothies richer and creamier. And freezing bananas at home is much less expensive than buying frozen bananas at the grocery stores. I personally like to keep a stash of frozen bananas (sliced) in the freezer so I can make smoothies on a whim.
- Peel the bananas. Peel ripe bananas and discard the peel.
- Slice bananas. Slice bananas into in 1/2 – 1-1/2 inch pieces (they don’t have to be perfectly sized).
- Cookie sheet. Lay the banana slices in a single layer on a cookie sheet (you can lay down a piece of parchment paper first if you want).
- Freeze. Put the cookie sheet with the banana slices in the freezer for 2o minutes.
- Loosen banana slices. After 20 minutes lift the banana pieces up from the baking sheet with a spatula so they won’t stick during the remaining freeze time. Then pop them back in the freezer to freeze for about 2 hours.
- Transfer to freezer bags. Use a spatula to loosen the frozen banana slices from the cookie sheet and transfer them to a plastic freezer bag.
- Store in freezer. Store in an air-tight container or bag in the freezer for up to 6 months.
