This green tea fruit smoothie recipe is made with 5 ingredients and comes together in a pinch, especially if you have already brewed and chilled green tea ahead of time.
This green tea berry smoothie has such a great combination of flavors. We drink a lot of green tea, so this is one of our favorite smoothies to make. Use whatever blend of mixed berries you like. For this recipe we use Woodstock Organic Antioxidant Blend, which is a mix of blueberries, dark sweet cherries, pomegranate arils and strawberries. This smoothie tastes amazing with this blend of fruit. We also like to use Earthbound Organic Basket Blend which is a mix of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. They also have a nice triple blend which is a mix of blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. But whatever brand and blend of berries you choose will work great for this smoothie.
Green Tea Smoothie Recipe
- Green tea bags. We use green tea bags to make the tea for this recipe. You can use loose leaf tea if you like.
- Frozen Fruit. We use frozen fruit (berries, cherries and pomegranate arils) for this smoothie.
- Orange Juice. We use fresh squeezed orange juice for this smoothie.
- Banana. We use frozen bananas for this smoothie because frozen bananas also make a colder, richer and creamier smoothie rather than room temperature bananas.
- Vanilla Extract. Just a little pure vanilla extract adds an exotic pop of flavor to this smoothie.
- Honey. This ingredient is optional. Use a little honey if you want to sweeten the green tea before blending it with the other ingredients. We don’t typically add the honey when we make this smoothie. The fruit adds enough sweetness for our taste.

How To Make Green Tea Fruit Smoothie
This green tea berry smoothie comes together in a pinch if you have brewed and chilled the green tea ahead of time.
- Steep Green Tea. Bring the water to a simmer in a large pot. Remove from heat and add the tea bags and steep for 1-3 minutes. Chill in the refrigerator up to an hour (longer even better) before blending with the fruit. It’s helpful to make steep the tea the day before so it’s nice a cold for your smoothie.
- Blend. Add the ingredients to a high powered blender and blend until smooth.
How Long Will It Last?
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 day, or pour into an ice cube tray and freeze. Transfer the frozen smoothie cubes to an airtight container or freezer bag (marking the date on the bag) and freeze for up to 6 months. Add the frozen smoothie cubes to smoothies.
How To Steep Green Tea Bags
A good standard is to use about 1 teaspoon of loose tea leaves per 1 cup water or 1 tea bag per cup of water.
- Fill a pot with cold water and heat to a simmer just before boiling then remove from heat.
- Add tea bags and steep (don’t squeeze tea bag while steeping because it will cause a bitter taste.
- Remove tea bag.
How Long Do You Steep Green Tea?
The longer you steep the tea, the more bitter tasting it can become. How long to steep green tea really depends on how strong you like your tea.
- Loose Leaf Tea. Steep for 2 to 4 minutes
- Tea Bag. Steep for 1 to 3 minutes
How To Freeze Bananas
We like to use frozen bananas in my smoothies because they make the smoothies richer and creamier. And freezing bananas at home is much less expensive than buying frozen bananas at the grocery stores. I personally like to keep a stash of frozen bananas (sliced) in the freezer so I can make smoothies on a whim.
- Peel the bananas. Peel ripe bananas and discard the peel.
- Slice bananas. Slice bananas into in 1/2 – 1-1/2 inch pieces (they don’t have to be perfectly sized).
- Cookie sheet. Lay the banana slices in a single layer on a cookie sheet (you can lay down a piece of parchment paper first if you want).
- Freeze. Put the cookie sheet with the banana slices in the freezer for 2o minutes.
- Loosen banana slices. After 20 minutes lift the banana pieces up from the baking sheet with a spatula so they won’t stick during the remaining freeze time. Then pop them back in the freezer to freeze for about 2 hours.
- Transfer to freezer bags. Use a spatula to loosen the frozen banana slices from the cookie sheet and transfer them to a plastic freezer bag.
- Store in freezer. Store in an air-tight container or bag in the freezer for up to 6 months.
