How to Rice Cauliflower

If you’ve ever wondered how to make cauliflower rice at home…. it’s super easy!!   Not as easy as buying a bag of riced cauliflower from Trader Joes or your local market, but it’s easy!

  • Cut cauliflower head in half and cut away stalk and green leaves
  • Cut cauliflower into florets
  • Add cauliflower to food processor.  Add only a handful or two of the cauliflower florets to the food processor at a time.  This way it will evenly process.  Be careful not to over process or the cauliflower.

How to Make Cauliflower Rice Without Food Processor

If you don’t own a food processor, you can always use a box grater to make this Mexican riced cauliflower.   Using the box grater method to make cauliflower rice is easy, but it will take you slightly more time than using a food processor.  

  • Cut cauliflower head in half and cut away stalk and green leaves
  • Cut cauliflower into into large wedges
  • Using the box grater, grate cauliflower wedges just as you would grate cheese

Spanish Cauliflower Rice Recipe

This cauliflower rice recipe uses a few basic ingredients.

  • 1 medium cauliflower, processed into rice
  • 2-3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic, minced 
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 3/4 cup vegetable broth (or chicken broth)
  • 1/2 teaspoon each onion powder and cumin powder

How to Cook Cauliflower Rice

Cooking cauliflower rice is relatively quick and easy.  It comes together in just about 20 minutes start-to-finish.

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and saute for 7-10 minutes or until onions are translucent and soft.
  3. Stir in cauliflower rice and saute with onions for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Add tomato paste and vegetable broth and stir well.
  5. Sprinkle in garlic and onion powders and stir.
  6. Cook for 3 – 5 minutes or until liquid has absorbed and cauliflower is tender.
